Karachi Saudi Arabia has been a patron for the entire Muslim Ummah and it has done everything possible to assist the victims of the Mina stampede. Thus, it is unfortunate to see the negative propaganda being disseminated by the Iranian media in light of this tragedy, said Ali Muhammad Turab, central leader of the Jamiat Ahle Hadith, at a press conference on Sunday. The conference held at the Karachi Press Club was attended by several prominent religious leaders including Mufti Naeem of Jamia Binoria and was aimed at highlighting the aftermath of the Mina tragedy. The leaders present criticised the government over what they termed an 'indifferent' attitude over the rumours generated by the Iranian media. They lambasted the media personalities and groups of Iran over their coverage and called for the Pakistani government to drop the 'silent spectator' role it has maintained till now. "The Iranian media has been trying to give a sectarian colour to the Mina tragedy," said Maulana Turab. "The Saudi government has done all it could to assist the victims. Thousands of mobile hospitals were established and the response has been professional and immediate. Therefore, it seems that Iran has only been criticising Saudi Arabia just for the sake of enmity." The religious leaders present at the presser dismissed the Iranian media's coverage as 'mere propaganda' and a 'conspiracy to create unrest' in the kingdom. They called on all leaders and people of Pakistan to stand shoulder to shoulder with Saudi Arabia in such testing times.
