A famous English idiom says: When two elephants fight, it is the grass that suffers. The residents of Askari-II Colony, Rawalpindi, practically experienced what ravages the grass goes through when two elephants fight.
The Chaklala Cantonment Board (CCB) and the MES Department, Rawalpindi, had a tiff over settlement of long outstanding dues against the CCB. In order to put pressure on the bad paymaster (the CCB), MES authorities without informing anyone blocked the supply of water to Askari-I and Askari-II Colony on October 4. As a result, the residents of Askari-II and some residents of Askari-I remained without water for two days in this hot weather. The MES did not serve any notice to the residents, who were taken by complete surprise by their action. It is hoped that in case of such action in the future, residents are forewarned by them to fill up their water containers.
