HARIPUR: Chairman National Highways Authority Shahid Ashraf Tarar on Thursday said that the Khanpur road project would be completed by March next year.
Talking to reporters, he said that reconstruction work on 35 KM Khanpur-Taxila road was in progress and would be completed by March next year.
He said that 25km of the road had been completed while the remaining 10 km portion of the road on Haripur and Taxila side would also be completed by next year.
Senator Talha Mehmood, Chairman Standing Committee of Senate, and Muhammad Saqlain, Director planning of the NHA, were also in attendance.
The NHA chief said that road had also been widened to meet the future needs of growing traffic. He said that tendering process for causeways and overhead-bridges which were not earlier included in the project had also been completed.
Unveiling the total cost of the project as Rs640 million, he said that the level of transparency of the NHA could be judged from the fact that cost of the project decreased by 22 percent from the engineers estimate.
Senator Talha Mehmood said that no foreign funding was obtained for the Khanpur road project. He said that the project was being completed with the funds of NHA that it collected from toll plazas. He said that former MNA Sardar Mushtaq played an important role in obtaining the approval for reconstruction of the road.
He said that the road will play a vital role in promotion of tourism and would reduce the traffic load on the GT Road.
