The rupee strengthened against the dollar in the local currency market on Thursday in the wake of lower dollar demand by the importers.
In the interbank dealings, the rupee closed higher at 104.37 to the greenback gained nine paisas from the previous close of 104.46.
The rupee lost its value in the open market. It traded at 104.40 and 104.60 against the dollar in open market.
