NAB directed to file reference
LAHORE:An accountability court on Thursday directed National Accountability Bureau to file reference against PML-N leader Raja Qamar-ul-Islam ruling that Qamar’s application for acquittal had become infructuous after the expiry of the amended NAB ordinance.
Earlier, the court had reserved its verdict on acquittal applications of Raja Qamar and others. However, the NAB had challenged acquittal applications of the accused. The NAB has accused that Qamar as being chairman of the Saaf Pani company awarded contracts of 84 water filtration plants at higher prices. It said the suspect had got the contracts of 102 plants approved from the company’s board of directors and committed forgery in the documents.
The bureau accused the company’s former chief executive officer Waseem Ajmal of violating procurement rules and permitting installation of water plants in Dunyapur Tehsil beyond the scope of the project. The court has given the same judgment on acquittal application of Waseem Ajmal.
