The event was organised to mark the successful completion of his 11 years in the country as ambassador of Argentina besides celebrating his and her daughter’s birthday.
Rodolfo J Martin Saravia is the longest serving envoy of Argentina to Pakistan. Like him, late Raja Tridiv Roy had served 13 years as ambassador of Pakistan to Argentina.
The event had high dignitaries, parliamentarians, senators, military officers, former ambassadors, social activists and businessmen.
Noted among them were US Ambassador Richard Olson, Senator Aitzaz Ahsan, Senator Nuzhat Sadiq, Establishment Division Secretary Nadeem Hasan Asif, PIA Chairman Nasser Jaffer, Foreign Affairs Ministry Director General (Americas) Mariam Aftab, former minister of state for foreign affairs Nawabzada Malik Amad Khan, MNA GG Jamal, BISP chairperson Marvi Memon, Ambassador of Romania Emilian Ion and High Commissioner of Bangladesh Suhrab Hossain.
According to the Argentinian ambassador, his daughter is visiting Pakistan for a week.
“She’s been here for the seventh time since I became the ambassador 2004. This shows her likeness towards and attachment with Pakistan and its lovely people. This time around, she was accompanied by her fiancé, who is here for the first time. He has liked the country very much,” he said.
The envoy said he was connected with the people of Pakistan through the bond of love, affection and friendship.
He said he would retire retire at the age of 70 in August 2016 on the completion of his 12 years in the country.
Meanwhile, the ambassador of Argentina will hold a charity photography exhibition-cum-contest at a local hotel with the collaboration of Paper Miracles, a not-for-profit organisation, to raise funds for marginalised women, including paraplegic survivors of the 2005 earthquake.
The event named ‘Shattered Colours’ is a presentation of photos taken by noted photojournalist of Japan, Kenjiro Sato. It will be inaugurated by Ambassador of Japan Hiroshi Inomata.
Besides, the envoy in coordination with Paper Miracles will open another photo exhibition titled as ‘Colours of Pakistan-Through the Eyes of the Diplomats’ where ambassadors and diplomatic missions are exhibiting amazing photos of Pakistan. This exhibition will be inaugurated by the ambassador of Argentina.
