Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) will stage a protest demonstration here on October 9 to press for its demand for arrest of culprits involved in the murder of JI leader Haji Tahir Khan.
JI Central General Secretary Liaquat Baloch will lead the rally from Committee Chowk to Waris Khan Chowk where a protest will be staged in front of the police station.
Addressing a press conference at Syed Maudoodi building, the JI Rawalpindi District Ameer Shamsur Rehman Swati said that Haji Tahir Khan, a leader of Shabab-e-Milli and National Labour Federation (NLF), was shot dead in the jurisdiction of Waris Khan Police Station on October 20, 2014 but so far no progress has been made on part of police to arrest his murderers. “The culprits involved in the killing of Haji Tahir had fled from the country with connivance of police,” the JI leader alleged.
Shamsur Rehman said the central Jamaat-e-Islami leadership had taken up the issue with the prime minister, interior minister and Punjab chief minister but to no avail. “After every direction from high-ups, the police showed some activity but then there was no further progress,” he said.
The JI leader said during the protest demonstration, they would also announce future plan of action to launch a movement for the arrest of culprits involved in the murder.
He recalled that immediately after the tragic incident, the relatives of Haji Tahir had expressed their apprehensions that the murderers were planning to fled from the country but no action was taken by police to arrest them. “Instead of arresting murderers nominated in the FIR, police have been protecting them,” he alleged adding that the movement would continue till the murderers are nabbed.
Naib District Ameer Uzair Hamid, Deputy General Secretary Ziaullah Chohan and Central Media Coordinator Shahid Shamsi were also present on the occasion.
