COVID-19 claims another 2 lives in Pindi

Rawalpindi : The spread of coronavirus illness, COVID-19 is getting more and more intense in the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi as in last 24 hours, as many as 52 new patients have been tested positive from the region while the disease claimed another two lives here at Benazir Bhutto Hospital in Rawalpindi district.

It is also alarming that well over 850 persons were under quarantine in the district on Thursday including 44 persons belonging to ‘Tableeghi Jamaat’.

Data collected by ‘The News’ on Thursday reveals that to date, a total of 488 patients have been tested positive for COVID-19 in the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi of which 17 have already lost their lives while 102 have recovered. On Thursday, 369 confirmed patients were undergoing treatment in the twin cities as active cases.

The COVID-19 claimed two more lives in the district at BBH in last 24 hours taking total number of deaths so far caused by the disease in the district to 14, said Executive District Officer (Health) Rawalpindi Dr. Sohail Ahmed Chaudhary while talking to ‘The News’ on Thursday.

He added that the patients died of coronavirus illness were residents of Gujar Khan and Rawal Town. As many as 42 more patients have been tested positive from Rawalpindi taking total number of confirmed patients from the district to 282 till Thursday, he said.

He added that to date, a total of 76 patients have recovered from COVID-19 in Rawalpindi district while 190 have been undergoing treatment at the hospitals including Corona Management Centre in Rawalpindi Institute of Urology and BBH.

He said as many as 33 persons belonging to ‘Tableeghi Jamaat’ have been under quarantine at Zakariya Masjid in Westridge Rawalpindi while another 11 have been under quarantine at University of Engineering and Technology in Taxila. Another 809 persons have been put under quarantine at their homes in the district and status of all persons under quarantine is being monitored on regular basis, he said.

Meanwhile, another 10 patients have been tested positive in Islamabad Capital Territory in last 24 hours taking total number of patients confirmed positive for COVID-19 in the federal capital to 204 of which 26 have so far recovered and three have already lost their lives. Number of active cases of the coronavirus illness in ICT on Thursday was 175 according to the official figure released by the national Command and Control Centre.
