Rs15 bn allocated to combat Covid-19 in Punjab: CM Usman Buzdar

TOBA TEK SINGH: Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar has said that presently more than 4,000 Covid-19 virus tests are being done in laboratories in Punjab province and within next few days the capability of these tests in the laboratories of the province will reach up to 10,000 a day.

Talking to the media on Tuesday at deputy commissioner's office after holding meeting within officials, the PTI leaders and parliamentarians, the chief minister stated that Rs15 billion had been allocated for combating Covid-19 in the province and his government was doing its best to confront corona and was also giving full attention on all other issues especially on wheat procurement and dengue control campaign. He said so far gunny bags for supply of 10,000 metric tonnes of wheat had been issued to the farmers and the target of 45,000 metric tons fixed in province will also be achieved. He claimed that in Ehsas Kafalat Programme's category-one, 97 percent financial aid had been delivered to the people and in category-two, 50 percent people have so far received the aid. He said in Toba Tek Singh District, more than 100,000 deserving people were being given financial help under Ehsas Kafalat Programme for which an amount of Rs3.30 billion had been provided to the district.

There will be no Ramazan bazaars in Punjab; however, needy people will directly be provided financial help during Ramazan. He said he himself had so far visited 16 cities in the province to inspect wheat procurement, Ehsas Kafalat programme and measures to control Covid-19 and dengue fever.

Earlier, reporters staged a protest outside the DC office when they were informed that the chief minister would not talk to them; however, after the intervention of DC Ms Amina Munir and DPO Waqar Shoaib Qureshi they ended the protest and later the CM spoke to them outside the DC office.

His helicopter landed at sports stadium and he passed through Jhang Road for which all shops, including medical stores, located on this road remained shut. All the city link roads were closed to traffic and citizens faced great hardships to reach their houses. He announced allocating funds in next annual budget to construct one-way road between Motorways M-3 and M-4 in next year's budget while assured of starting construction of Rajana-Muridwala Road and more wards in DHQ hospital on the demand of local PTI parliamentarians.

Usman Buzdar also visited Gojra and went to the house of PTI MPA Bilal Asghar Warraich where he condoled the death of the MPA’s mother. Punjab Women Development Minister Begum Ashfaq Fatyana, MNA Riaz Fatyana, MPAs Saeed Ahmad Saeedi and Begum Sonia Ali Raza, PTI central vice-president Chaudhry Muhammad Ashfaq was also present on the occasion. He visited Government Women College where Ehsas Kafalat programme officials were at work.
