PESHAWAR: Criticising the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government for failing to take timely steps to prevent the spread of the coronavirus, Qaumi Watan Party (QWP) provincial Chairman Sikandar Hayat Khan Sherpao on Saturday said the rulers were dragging their feet over containing the Covid-19 pandemic.
According to a press release issued from Watan Kor in Peshawar, he was addressing a gathering in Tangi tehsil in Charsadda, where former candidate for PK-56 Humayun Khattak announced joining the QWP along with his family members and supporters.
Sikandar Sherpao said the government should have evolved consensus on fighting the coronavirus instead of playing politics over this important issue. He maintained that there was no coordination between the federal and provincial governments.
The QWP leader said the government did not take the opposition parties into confidence to ensure transparency in the distribution of the relief package, which made the whole process controversial.
“Now questions are being raised about the transparency in the distribution of the relief package,” he remarked.
Sikandar Sherpao criticised the government for failing to provide the personal protective equipment to the doctors and other paramedical staff, who were the real heroes fighting the Covid-19 on the frontlines.
He said the government should establish laboratories at the tehsil level to conduct the tests of the suspected corona patients to stem the spread of the contagious disease.
