IPSOS survey: 51pc Pakistanis fear losing job in six months

ISLAMABAD: The results of a survey conducted by the global research and consulting firm IPSOS on Saturday disclosed that 51 percent Pakistanis fear losing job in next six months in view of the coronavirus situation.

Asked how much likely someone in their family or someone else they knew personally will lose job as a result of the current economic conditions, 51 percent Pakistanis feared losing their jobs in next six months. Out of national average of 51 percent fearing losing jobs, belonged to urban areas and 54 percent to the rural areas.

51 percent each in Punjab and Sindh fear losing their job. The highest number of 54 percent belonged to KP who were fearing losing job in next six months because of deteriorating economic conditions. The lowest number of people fearing losing job belong to Balochistan, as only 45 percent had expressed such fears during the survey. Results disclosed that 75 percent people mainly from rural areas of Pakistan do not personally know someone who received Rs12,000 stipend announced by the government.

“Only 25 percent personally know someone who received Rs12,000 under a program launched by the government,” this was the result of the survey titled ‘IPSOS Tracker and Snap Polls’ about COVID-19 pandemic exclusively available with The News.

The survey results show an alarming situation, as 51 percent fear losing jobs in next six months and this fear highly existed among people belonging to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP).

On the question of whether you personally know someone who has been given Rs12,000 under a program launched by the government, only one in four know someone who has received Rs12,000 mainly from rural areas.

Out of 25 percent who stated “yes” about the question of Rs12,000 assistance, there were 27 percent male and 19 percent female.

Only 23 percent belonged to urban areas, while 29 percent were from rural areas.

The highest number of people knowing about Rs12,000 scheme belonged to Sindh where 29 percent possessed knowledge about it and then 25 percent belonged to Punjab. Only 21 percent knew about it from KP and 23 percent from Balochistan.

There are 82 percent Pakistanis who believe Taraveeh prayers should be offered the same as before in Ramazan.

When asked how much they agree or disagree with the statement that “Taraveeh prayer should be offered the same as before in Ramadan”, 82 percent agreed saying it should be offered the same as before in Ramadan.

Of those who agreed on Taraveeh question, 83 percent were male and 78 percent female. 79 percent belonged to urban areas and 84 percent to the rural areas. The highest number of people who agreed with the Taraveeh question belonged to Balochistan, as 90 percent agreed to it, followed by Sindh 82 percent, Punjab 81 percent and KP 79 percent.
