Crackdown on beggars continues

LAHORE: As per directions of IG Shoaib Dastagir, the police continued a crackdown on beggars on Thursday.

Legal actions have been taken against 2,205 beggars across the province since the start of operation. Collectively, 657 cases have been registered against beggars whereas 2,071 beggars have been released on warning.

The IG stressed all field officers to step up crackdown on beggars and said that such characterless people who exploit children for begging do not deserve any concession and special action should be taken against them and in this regard actions should be kept on with collaboration of teams of Child Protection Bureau. He added that swift actions should be taken against those drug addictives who pretend themselves to be handicapped and jobless so that the citizens may be saved from them. He said a progress report should be sent to Central Police Office.

arrested: Police arrested 19,676 outlaws and submitted challans of 14,139 cases in courts during the last three months.

According to an official report, booty worth Rs 10.4 million was also recovered from the arrested outlaws. Meanwhile, a maid and her husband were arrested over theft and recovered valuables and gold ornaments worth Rs 5.8 million from their custody. Defence-C police traced the accused and recovered the stolen items.
