SUKKUR: PML-F, PML-N, JUI-F and PTI have been suspecting pre-poll rigging in the local bodies’ elections, and in this regard hundreds of workers of these parties staged a demonstration on the Main City Road in Khairpur and accused some PPP candidates of indulging in pre-poll rigging.
They also accused an official of taking dictations from some government high-ups. They said that the official “taking dictations from the high-ups” rejected nomination papers of their party candidates without assigning any solid grounds for the rejection of the nomination papers. Besides, they also accused the same official of violating the code of conduct for the local bodies’ elections by releasing development funds to the favourites of the PPP.
They also accused the Khairpur police of registering fake cases against their candidates. They said their candidates would withstand all the pressure being brought on them to bear and would not submit to harassment. They demanded deployment of Army and Rangers at the polling stations. Meanwhile, it was alleged at a press conference that Sepco had issued “no dues certificates” to some PPP candidates who had been defaulters of Sepco and banks.
