60 prisoners test positive for coronavirus
LAHORE : At least 60 prisoners have been tested positive for coronavirus out of total 527 suspects.
According to a report, 378 prisoners were tested negative while the tests of 89 were still awaited. Jail administration's negligence in timely isolating the inmates resulted in increase in coronavirus cases.
murdered: A man was gunned down by unidentified persons at Begum Kot Chowk, Shahdara, on Saturday.
The deceased identified as Anayat was the owner of a sweets shop. Police removed the body to morgue.
Fire at petrol sale point: A fire broke out in a petrol sale point near Manga Bypass on Saturday.
Firefighters rushed to the scene and put out the fire after hectic efforts. No casualty was reported in the incident.
deputed: Lahore police have made elaborated security strategy for a peaceful and disciplined distribution of financial assistance under the Ehsaas Programme and deputed more than 1,000 police officers and officials at all the 31 Ehsaas Programme disbursement centres in the City.
As many as six SPs, 18 DSPs, 31 SHOs, 31 upper subordinates, 124 lady constables, 43 reserves of Anti-Riot Force were deputed at the cash distribution centres. Police have also adopted all Standard Operational Procedures (SOPs) set to prevent spread of coronavirus during the distribution of cash.
DIG Operations Lahore Rai Babar Saeed visited different Ehsaas Programme disbursement centres at Naseerabad, Kahna, Wahdat Colony, Ali Raza Abad on Raiwind Road, Chung, Shahdara and Samanabad to review the security arrangements.
He was accompanied by Deputy Commissioner Danish Afzaal, SPs, DSPs, members of the district administration accompanied him.
Strict security arrangements were witnessed at all the cash distribution Centres and the process of financial assistance distribution was smooth and peaceful. Earlier, DIG Operations Rai Babar Saeed presided over a video link meeting with all the divisional SPs and sectional heads of Lahore police to finalise the security arrangements for cash distribution under the Ehsaas Programme. Rai Babar Saeed directed the officers to ensure discipline during the cash distribution.
movement: Lahore police continued to ensure strict implementation of Section 144 and other measures taken by the government to contain the unnecessary movement of the public in the City during the partial lockdown in the wake of coronavirus.
Lahore Police Operations Wing has set up special pickets in different areas of the City to stop people from unnecessary movement. More than 138,700 citizens have been checked at the pickets so far since the imposition of the lockdown, whereas, more than 129,300 people were asked to contain their unnecessary movement in the City and go back to their homes.
DIG Operations Rai Babar Saeed said 1717 FIRs had been registered against the persons involved in violations of Section 144. More than 3,950 accused were release afterwards taking warranty bonds as not to move again in City unnecessarily.
As many as 119,026 vehicles, including 68,296 motorcycles, 22,873 cars, 18,223 auto-rickshaws, 3,190 taxis and 6,444 bigger vehicles, were stopped on the pickets and vehicles owners were issued warnings on unnecessary movement in the city.
DIG Operations Lahore Rai Babar Saeed visited the pickets and roadblocks to review the arrangements made there for checking.
