Man self-immolates in front of Prime Minister Secretariat

Islamabad : In a blatant mysterious attempt of suicide, a man committed suicide by self-immolation in front of Prime Minister Secretariat's gate here on Friday in the federal capital.

Citizen, identified as Faisal Abbasi son of Fazal Hussain Abbasi, 42, resident of Upper Dewal, Murree, set himself on fire by sprinkling petroleum on his body in front of Gate-2 of Prime Minister Secretariat. The victim kept floundering on the middle of the Constitution Avenue but no one helped him out. He was later rushed by a police party to PIMS with critical burn injuries where he succumbed to his injuries.

The police sources told ‘The News’ that he committed suicide as reaction and protest against the staff of a government hospital.

Prime Minister Imran Khan taking notice of the self-immolation incident assigned Chief Commissioner Islamabad to hold inquiry into the incident and file detailed report about the incident as soon as possible.

A letter, which was found lying beside Faisal, readout, "It is my fault that I voted PTI to power and also convinced people to vote for the party.” In the letter, he demanded of Prime Minister House to take action against a politician named, Jawad Abbasi, stating that he had filed an application against the said politician with PM Secretariat, which was later marked to CPO Rawalpindi with instruction for SDPO Murree to take action. In the letter he also alleged, "I went to Pirwadhai Police Station against the said politician (Jawad Abbasi) but Pirwadhai Police kept me out of the police station building and instead of taking any action on my application, filed a case of 20 litre liquor against me.”

Sources also revealed that relative of the self-immolated citizen was admitted to Federal Government Service Polyclinic and on negligence on account of hospital staff; he took the drastic step of self-immolation.

In another revelation the Rawalpindi police also claimed that the deceased had been involved in an attempted rape case as he allegedly tried to rape a 9-year-old minor girl and a criminal case (390/19) was registered against him under sections 376/511 PPC with the Murree Police Station.

The Rawalpindi police claimed that the deceased was wanted to the Murree Police as he was at large and had already been declared proclaimed offender.

DIG Operation Islamabad, Syed Waqar-ud-Din stated that as per preliminary investigation, the citizen was not in good mental health.

On other side, as per record of Rawalpindi police, a case against Faisal Abbasi was registered with Murree Police Station dated September 19, 2019 on the charges of attempt to rape of a nine-year-old girl. The accused Faisal Abbasi was proclaimed offender in case numbered 390/19 under sections 376/511 since December 2019.
