11 more tested positive for COVID-19 in twin cities, 4 in critical condition
Rawalpindi : As many as 11 new patients have been tested positive for coronavirus illness, COVID-19 here in the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi in last 24 hours taking total number of confirmed patients of the disease so far reported in the region to 129 while a total of 243 persons have been under quarantine in Rawalpindi.
Data collected by ‘The News’ on Friday has revealed that six new patients were tested positive for COVID-19 in the federal capital in last 24 hours taking total number of confirmed patients reported in Islamabad Capital Territory to 68 though the infection has claimed no life in Islamabad so far.
Another five patients were tested positive in Rawalpindi in last 24 hours taking total number of confirmed patients in town to 61 and it is important to mention that the COVID-19 has already claimed three lives in the district.
All the patients so far tested positive for COVID-19 in Rawalpindi have been undergoing treatment at the designated specialised healthcare facilities in town including Benazir Bhutto Hospital (BBH) and Corona Management Centre established at Rawalpindi Institute of Urology as not a single patient has so far achieved complete cure.
“All confirmed patients are undergoing treatment at BBH or CMC and only one of the admitted patient is in critical condition,” said Executive District Officer (Health) Dr. Sohail Ahmed Chaudhary while talking to ‘The News’ on Friday.
He added that to date, a total of 61 confirmed patients have been registered in the district while some 43 persons are in quarantine at the two quarantine facilities established at Pir Mehr Ali Shah Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi and Fatima Jinnah Women University. Another 200 persons have been under quarantine at their homes, he said.
‘The News’ has learnt that Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), the first healthcare facility designated to deal with coronavirus cases in the federal capital received a total of 1,697 patients since establishment of isolation ward in it of which 623 were suspected and their samples were sent to National Institute of Health for confirmation though 39 were tested positive.
On Friday, a total of 17 confirmed patients were undergoing treatment at PIMS of which two were on ventilator support. A total of three patients were believed to be in critical condition at PIMS on Friday.
According to daily situation report of Ministry of National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination Field Epidemiology and Disease Surveillance Division (FEDSD), National Institute of Health (NIH), Islamabad updated on Friday as many as 68 patients have so far been tested positive in ICT of which 18 are hospitalised while three have recovered. As many as 47 confirmed patients are under quarantine at homes or quarantine facilities according to the report.
