Umerkot has 20 Covid testing kits only, says DC

SUKKUR: The Deputy Commissioner, Umerkot, Nadeem-ur-Rehman Memon, has said there are currently around 20 testing kits in the district but more testing kits and personal protective equipment was required.

Memon was briefing a meeting on Thursday attended by Coronavirus focal person for Umerkot and Minister for Culture and Tourism Syed Sardar Ali Shah, Brigadier Naveed Iqbal, Lieutenant Colonel Hashmat, Pakistan Rangers Colonel Waqar, MPA Rana Hamir Singh, SSP Amir Abbas and others. Memon said that isolation wards containing about 200 beds have been set up in the Umerkot district and more isolation wards will be set up. He said that private hospitals, hostels and guest houses have been turned into quarantine centres. Earlier, Syed Sardar Ali Shah said the Government of Pakistan and Sindh are using all their resources to tackle the spread of Coronavirus to save maximum number of people from the outbreak.

Chairing the meeting at the Soreh Badshah Complex, Umerkot, Syed Sardar Ali Shah said that Pakistan Army, Pakistan Rangers, Sindh Police and district administration are working with close coordination to overcome the health emergency. The district administration's Corona Emergency Control Room is monitoring all the different issues related to the crisis. He said the district administration has made effective arrangements to deal with the coronavirus situation in Umerkot district.

Brigadier Naveed Iqbal said that the district administration has taken good steps to fight the Coronavirus and that the situation in Umerkot is much better than other districts of the province. He said the Pak Army is fully cooperating with the Umerkot district administration and focusing on the health sector. He advised District Management Umerkot to specifically ask donors to manage delivery of food and other edibles.
