SUKKUR: Prolific playwright Abdul Qadir Junejo was laid to rest in a graveyard of his native village Jhanan Junejo near Nuhato, some 65 kilometers from Mithi, on Tuesday.
The writers and members of various segments of the society attended his funeral, while prominent writers and poets of Sindh, and the country expressed their condolences on the sad demise of Junejo, terming it a great loss for the world of literature. Junejo had authored number of the famous TV serials and radio dramas, novels, fiction stories in Sindhi, Urdu and English and was honoured with a number of awards including highest civilian award of the country.
Junejo authored various serials on PTV, including Parenda, Dewareen, Choti Si Dunya, and Dhool. He started working as a primary teacher in 1962 and secondary teacher in 1972 and was then appointed director of Institute of Sindhology at the Sindh University, Jamshoro. Junejo served as chairperson of Sindhi Language Authority at the Sindh Culture Tourism and Antiquities Department from 2005 to 2008. Writers, politicians, and journalists expressed their deep condolences with the bereaved family and prayed to Almighty Allah to give them courage to bear the loss.
