CHARSADDA: Five cops, including an assistant sub-inspector (ASI), sustained injuries when unidentified gunmen opened fire on a police van in Dilazak area in the limits of Sro Police Station on Saturday evening, sources said. The sources said that the mobile unit of the Sro Police Station, headed by ASI Amjad Khan, was on a routine patrolling in the area when came under attack. “The gunmen came out of the roadside field at 8:35pm and opened indiscriminate fire on the police van at Dilazak area,” said an official. Five cops identified as ASI Amjad Khan, Constable Yousaf, Sajid, Taheen and driver Riaz were wounded, the sources added. Following the incident, the police reached the spot and shifted the injured cops to the District Headquarters Hospital in Charsadda. Three of the injured cops were shifted to the Lady Reading Hospital in Peshawar due to their precarious condition. The police launched search operation in the surrounding area at Dilazak but no arrest was made till filing of this report.
