PESHAWAR: The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) provincial leader Raham Bacha Sherpao has termed the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government’s monthly financial assistance for the poor a joke with them and said the meagre amount is not sufficient even for a week.

In a statement on Saturday, he said that the government had announced a stipend of Rs3000 monthly for the poor but no one would be able to run a home with this amount for a week in the prevalent price-hike.

He asked the politicians and elected representatives who, he said, spent millions of rupees on their elections, should come forward to help the needy people in their respective constituencies.

He deplored that the politicians of various parties had disappeared from their constituencies rather they should have come forward for helping the poor. Holding the PTI government responsible for the spread of coronavirus, the PPP leader alleged that government did not take action on time to control the viral disease.

He said that the government opened the border and allowed the entry of infected people into the country. He asked the government to write off electricity and gas bills and make arrangements for provision of ration to the poor. Raham Sherpao also appealed to the well-off and philanthropists to help the needy and deserving people in this difficult time as the ongoing lockdown had badly affected the daily wagers and the poor.
