MANSEHRA: Upper Kohistan police have completely blocked Karakoram Highway at various points to restrict mobility of public and private transport between Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan as a precautionary measure to contain spread of coronavirus in the district. “We have strictly been following governments’ advisories and transport is not allowed via Karakoram Highway,” Upper Kohistan District Police Officer Arif Javed told reporters on Friday. He said that a large number of pilgrims on way back from Iran via KHH was allowed to cross over to Gilgit-Baltistan about eight days ago after adopting all possible measures to contain spread of Covid-19 in the district. “We have established our check posts at Harban, a boundary area between KP and GB, and Kamila at KKH and only essential goods and individuals coming under government advisory are being allowed to proceed,” he added. He said that there was a complete lockdown in the district and business of essential commodities were being allowed to run in light of social distancing. He said that the army and Frontier Constabulary personnel were also deployed along with police at the checkposts.
