City receives heavy rain

LAHORE:The City witnessed a rainy day here Friday while Met office predicted similar weather conditions for the next 24 hours.

The rain started early morning and continued until late at night with intervals. Maximum rain recorded in different areas was 22mm while at the airport side it was 20mm, Met officials said. Following the rain, Wasa Managing Director Syed Zahid Aziz called all the operational staff in the field and directed them to remain on roads until clearance of rainwater. He also made surprise visit to various localities to check presence of Wasa officers in the field.

Met officials said a westerly wave is still affecting upper and central parts of the country and likely to affect till 24 to 36 hours. They predicted that mainly dry weather is expected in most parts of the country. However, rain thunderstorm is expected in upper Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, upper Punjab, Islamabad, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir.

Rainfall was also recorded in other cities, including Kotli 63, Rawalakot 45, Muzaffarabad (City 27, Ap 15), Garhi Dupatta 25, Islamabad (AP 46, Saidpur 40, ZP 33, Golra 32, Bokra 28), Mandi Bahauddin 39, Narowal 38, Rawalpindi (Shamsabad 37), Faisalabad 37, Sialkot 33, Bahawalpur (City, Ap 31), Sahiwal 27, Chakwal, Attock 24, Hafizabad, Khanewal 22, Toba Tek Singh 18, Gujranwala 17, Multan, DG Khan 16, Jhang 15, Kot Addu 12, Bhakkar 10, Okara 08, Layyah 04, Khanpur 03, Joharabad 02, RY Khan 01, Malam Jabba 29, Kakul 128, Peshawar 17, Balakot, Takht Bhai 15, Saidu Sharif, Pattan 13, Mirkhani 09, Bannu, Chirat 08, D.I Khan, Chitral, Dir 05, Parachinar 01, Mohen-Jo-Daro 48, Larkana, Jacobabad 20, Padidan 13, Dadu 01, Sibbi 11, Barkhan 04 and Zhob 02.

Minimum temperature was recorded at Kalam where mercury dropped to -02°C while in Lahore, it was 16.4°C and maximum was 20.2°C.
