BARA: The district administration launched disinfection operation by chlorinating roads and markets in Bara, Jamrud and Landikotal tehsils, said a press release.
It said that thermal guns scanning had started at Karkhano checkpost entry point from Peshawar to Khyber district. The district administration has also launched public awareness campaign.
Talking to reporters, Deputy Commissioner Mahmood Aslam Wazir said the traders had voluntarily locked down bazaars in Bara, Landikotal and Jamrud. He said the people should help spread awareness and adopt preventive measures against coronavirus. The official maintained that the government had already closed borders with neighbouring countries to stop the spread of coronavirus. "The provincial government has taken measures to create awareness among the people about Covid-19,” Mahmood Aslam said. He said that the Khyber could not afford to undergo total lockdown as the tribal people are very poor and had suffered in prolonged militancy. The deputy commissioner said the non-governmental organisations and social activists had already launched campaigns to create awareness among the masses.
