Mansehra sets up first quarantine centre at girls college

MANSEHRA: The district administration on Monday declared Government Girls Elementary College building as the first quarantine centre in the district.

The college has around 50 classrooms. All the rooms were washed by Tehsil Municipal administration employees with the chlorine solution. “We have not only washed it with the chlorine solution but also placed beds in each room where patients infected with coronavirus would be kept in isolation,” Mohammad Iqbal, the head of TMA Sanitation Department, told reporters. A circular issued by the district administration confirmed that first-ever quarantine centre in the district has been established at the Ghazikot Township.

It is situated at Karakoram Highway near the township where the first coronavirus case of an expatriate was detected some seven days ago. Now the family of the affected person was also being kept there under after the screening. Meanwhile, the district administration completely locked down Ghazikot Township Sector-D and declared it a quarantine where the first coronavirus case of an expatriate was reported in the district on March 16. A notification by Assistant commissioner Tillat Fahad said the sector had been declared quarantine because of existence of coronavirus affectees in a house.

“The police were ordered to close entry and exit points to the sector with an immediate effect,” stated the notification. It said the revenue staff turn by turn facilitates locals for provision of edible from markets and they could contact the control room established by the administration through telephone. Following the orders, the police was deployed at the entry and exit points and people’s movement was restricted. Ajaz Ahmad an expatriate was kept in quarantine following his return from Britain some seven days ago.

Ajaz Ahmad and his brother Iftikhar Ahmad, who according to the official sources had received the former at the Islamabad International Airport also underwent screening and was quarantined. Ajaz was kept in quarantine at his residence in Sector-D of posh Ghazikot Township.
