MULTAN: Justice Shahid Bilal Hassan of the Lahore High Court Multan Bench Tuesday accepted a petition for regular hearing, seeking disqualification of PML-N legislator Abdur Rehman Kanju and fixed Sep 22 as hearing date.
Independent candidate Abdur Rehman Kanju had won in the 2013 general elections by securing 85,376 votes. Later, he joined the PML-N. Now he is facing a tough time for allegedly having two CNICs. Earlier, Punjab former minister Abdul Waheed Arian was disqualified for two CNICs. The petitioner’s counsel Azhar Kamlana told The News that petitioner Safdar Hussain Gilani had filed the petition in 2014 before the LHC Multan Bench, challenging the CNICs and educational certificates of Abdur Rehman Kanju. He said that the LHC Multan Bench had sought detailed answer from Abdur Rehman Kanju, but he did not respond. He said that he had moved an application before the LHC Multan Bench on Tuesday, which was forwarded to Justice Shahid Bilal Hassan and he fixed Sep 22 for early hearing of the case while notices had been sent to the concerned parties. Azhar Kamlana said that PML-N MNA Abdur Rehman Kanju was found involved in using two CNICs with two different names. He said that he was doing his family business in the name of Sardar Khan and political business as Abdur Rehman Khan Kanju. The manual CNIC issued in the name of Sardar Khan under CNIC number 326-80-811852, depicting his date of birth 1976 while the CNIC issued in the name of Abdur Khan Kanju showed he was born in 1980, he added. His family property including agriculture land was transferred in the name of Sardar Khan Kanju, he informed. Abdur Rehman Khan Kanju advertised his change of name in Lodhran’s local newspaper in 1999 and he changed his name from Sardar Khan to Abdur Rehman Khan Kanju, he continued. Kanju allegedly committed dishonesty again by using his fictitious CNIC in 2004 when he had been sanctioned a regular loan in the name of Sardar Khan, Azhar added.
