CHAKDARA: Federal Minister for Religious Affairs Maulana Noorul Haq Qadri said on Sunday that public hanging was in accordance with the teachings of Islam.

Talking to reporters here, he said that public hanging was in line with the teachings of the Holi Quran and Sunnah. He also argued that public hanging was in vogue many Islamic countries where it helped bring down the crime rate. Qadri maintained that Federal Minister for Law Farogh Naseem and Federal Minister for Science and Technology Fawad Chaudhry were not aware of the Constitution and the Holy Quran.

“Those calling Islamic punishments as oppression are themselves promoting tyranny and terrorism,” the minister said, adding that it was the priority of the government to introduce Islamic laws. The minister said that raise in the Haj expenses was linked to the devaluation of the rupee and the increase in taxes by the Saudi government. He commented the net hydel profit arrears could not be paid to the province until the economy improved. He added that though the former Federally Administered Tribal Areas were merged into Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, it would take time to resolve the issues being faced by the people of the tribal districts.
