No matter of concern if PML-Q in contact with Opp: Sarwar

LAHORE: Punjab Governor Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar has said that Punjabis love Punjabi language, no matter wherever they are.

Prime Minister Imran Khan by opening Kartarpur Corridor has united the Punjabis of both sides of the border, said, adding, “We all Punjabis will work together for promotion of Punjabi language and culture.”

He was speaking at the third International Conference on Punjabi Language, Literature, Art and Culture organised by Punjabi Department of Lahore College for Women University (LCWU) here on Thursday.

Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar said despite living 37 years of his life far away from Punjab, he did not find the feel and taste of speaking Punjabi in any other language. “We all Punjabi will have to make joint efforts for promotion of Punjabi language and culture,” he said while welcoming scholars from the US, Canada and other countries.

He observed that Kartarpur Corridor project had brought Punjabis of both sides closer to each other.

Later talking to the media, the Punjab governor said contacts were there in politics and if Q-League was in contact with an opposition party, it was not a matter to be worried about. Reality is that PML-Q is standing beside the government even today and Prime Minister Imran Khan has also expressed the commitment to take along the allied parties, he added.

The Punjab governor said the credulous PML-N should not be over-confident because Q-League and other allied parties were with the government. Prime Minister Imran Khan was not a person who compromises but a leader firm on principles. “PTI will contest local government and next general election in alliance with PML-Q, besides taking it along on all issues at the federal and Punjab level,” he added.

The allies’ reservations are not a matter of to worry about and even a single day will not be reduced from constitutional term of government as general election will be conducted in year 2023. All the allied parties have made it clear that they will not become part of any move aimed at toppling the government, he added.

LCWU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Bushra Mirza while addressing the conference said that along with research in science and technology, Lahore College for Women University would continue to play its role in promoting language, literature, arts and culture. “Promotion of our culture will play an important role in connecting us to our roots,” she added.

Dr Marghoob Hussain Tahir, professor, Osaka University, Japan, presented a paper on “Ancient Punjabi Language.” Sukhinder Singh, editor, SANVAD Canada, presented a paper, “The Language of Peace.” Mrs Rajwant Kaur Bajwa, Amritsar, India, presented a paper “Analysis of Punjab.” Dr Devinder Pal Singh, director, Cambridge Learning, Canada, presented a paper “Punjabi Language-Current Status and Future Prospectus.”

As many as 74 national and international scholars presented their research work in the conference.

Earlier, Punjab Governor Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar also inaugurated a new block of Social Sciences at LCWU.

The block has been built at a cost of Rs 215.600 million in collaboration with the Higher Education Commission. The new block will accommodate more than 1,900 students of 10 various departments of the varsity while it also has two conference halls, six computer labs and two community halls.
