SI bookedfor torturing maid in Sialkot
SIALKOT: A sub-inspector of police was booked on charges of torturing a maid and her brother over the suspicion of stealing money.
Reportedly, SI Badar Munir and his two accomplices the other day tortured maid Aalia Bibi and her elder brother Fayyaz at a house in Model Town in the limits of Uggoki police station on the suspicion of stealing Rs 100,000 from his house.
The SI also allegedly poured hot water on the siblings and when their condition deteriorated they were left at a hospital. The police have registered a case against the SI and his accomplices.
World Wetlands Day marked: The World Wetlands Day organised with the cooperation of World Wildlife Fund (WWF) Pakistan was observed here at an educational institute on Monday. On the occasion, an awareness seminar was also held in a private university to highlight the role of wetlands in the environment.
Addressing the seminar, senior officer of Fresh Water Program of WWF-Pakistan Adeel Younas said the enhanced knowledge in the young generation, particularly the students, about the significance of the wetlands in the country and their bio-diversity for the ecosystem and the environment was very important.
He said increased awareness in the students about the wetlands would not only help them understand about the big risks of water scarcity in a country like Pakistan but would also enable them to face the challenge effectively.
Adeel said young generation must learn effectively conserve the day by day depleting wet lands and water resources.
He said wetlands were quite essential for a balanced and stable environment and ecosystem.
Many of the students also spoke on the occasion.Several paintings generated by the students aboutpreserving wet landswere also exhibited at the varsity.
11 ARRESTED OVER KITE FLYING: Eleven people were arrested from various localities on charges of kite flying on Monday.
Rangpura, Uggoki and Mautrah police arrested Adnan, Ali Shehroz, Umair Ali, Ali Hasan, Babar Hussain, Shamsher Ali, Husnain Ali, Aqueel Ahmed, Fazal Qayyum, Shahid Pervez and Ali Raza and seized several kites and dozens of twine rolls from them.
