3-day Galiyat Snow Festival from 31st
PESHAWAR: A three-day thrilling Galiyat Snow Festival 2020 is going to kick off in the scenic Nathiagali and other serene spots in Galiyat Valley from January 31.
Being organised by the Tourism Corporation Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (TCKP) and Galiyat Development Authority (GDA), the festival will feature skiing, snow-tubing, trekking, biking, snow hiking, bonfire, tug-of-war, snow football, camping, Vlog competitions, food stalls, snow cartoons, jeep rally and other activities to entertain tourists and visitors.
Food and night music are also part of the gala, in which famous singers and artistes including Ali Azmat, Umair Jaswal, Hamza Ali Abbasi and others will perform. The festival will be organised in Nathiagali, Dongagali, Ayubia, Khanispur, Mushkpuri Top to entertain the tourists in the scenic Galiyat. The snow gala will conclude on February 2. A communication said it is an opportunity for all to participate in one of the biggest adventure events of the year.
The organisers said that a larger number of tourists and visitors are expected to come this year to enjoy tourism activities, including adventure events on the white snow, food and music, owing to the better arrangements and facilities made available by the TCKP and GDA.
PDMA sends relief goods to districts
The Provincial Disaster Management Authority, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (PDMA KP) has launched contingency planning and preparation for untoward natural hazards for the year 2020.
To tackle any natural calamities, the authority has sent relief goods first supply to all district administrations including newly merged districts, Rescue 1122, and Civil Defence. The relief items include 4410 tents, 3970 blankets, 3265 plastic mats, 3548 quilts, 2700 kitchen sets, 2140 mosquito nets, 955 gas cylinders, 2280 hygiene kits, 750 life jackets, 2440 tarpaulin sheets, 1244 jerry cans, 600 buckets, 2940 mattress, 725 searchlights, 453 first aid boxes, 1540 water coolers, etc. The PDMA has dispatched important equipment as well to 30 Rescue 1122 stations across the province, including 30 heavy dewatering pumps which are useful for dewatering urban flooding.
The items are useful in recent rain/snowfall spell and existing cold weather across the province, especially the hilly areas of the province. A communication said the PDMA is in close contact with all district administrations and line departments to tackle any natural calamity and will provide relief items stored in its warehouse in case of any emergency.
More nanbais arrested
The district administration here continued the crackdown against those nanbais selling underweight roti. A press release said more nanbais were arrested in the provincial capital. It added that the crackdown would continue against the violators. The administration said there would be no compromise on the agreed weight of roti which was 115-gram. It also warned the nanbais against selling roti for Rs 15. Meanwhile, the administration and police arrested 15 persons for one wheeling and seized their motorbikes on Northern Bypass.
