At the start of winter I tried to get my gas geyser fixed. After spending Rs5000 in parts and labour charges it was still not working like it should. A plumber arranged by a friend finally fixed it. So it was gratifying to read the news report ‘NAVTTC to introduce Matric-Tech in schools’ (Jan 21, 2020).
Not everyone can or should go for a higher education. A technical education would be more appropriate for some. I personally know of a young man, who has a Masters degree from Air University, Islamabad, who is working as a store keeper as he was unable to get a job. My niece, who is a Fulbright scholar, mentioned to me that some of her batch mates are still looking for jobs months after graduating. There is something terribly wrong when Fulbright scholars are jobless. I won't be surprised if they end up emigrating.
