OKARA: Tenants belonging to Anjuman-e-Mazareen Punjab (AMP), Okara Military Farms (OMF) and Kulyana State (KS) continued their protest on the second day on Thursday.
They had blocked GT Road at the level crossing of Chak 3/4L for the last 40 hours. They were demanding release of their leader Hafiz Jabbar, who was arrested by police on the murder charges two days ago.
Meanwhile, Satghara police apprehended 16 AMP activists, including Muhammad Ishaq, Iqbal, Irfan, Muhammad Hassan, Muhammad Iqbal, Muhammad Naeem, Shan, Muhammad Hussain, Iftikhar Ahmad, Shamshad Ahmad, Sanaullah, Sarwar, Muhammad Siddiq, Muhammad Yaseen, Muhammad Shahbaz and Noor Jhakhar.
On the other hand, Inspector Mehr Ismail told newsmen that the AMP tenants allegedly opened fire on police. As a result, Constables Asghar Ali and Israrul Haq of Sadr police station were injured. They were admitted to the DHQ Hospital. The DPO visited the hospital and inquired about the constables. However, the AMP leaders denied the occurrence of any such incident.
It is learnt Regional Police Officer Ghulam Mehmood Dogar, Sahiwal DPO Syed Baqar Raza, Okara DCO Qaisar Saleem and Okara DPO Muhammad Faisal Rana were in a meeting in the DCO Office. Some AMP leaders have also arrived there for a meeting with them.
Meanwhile, AMP general secretary Mehr Abdus Sattar told the correspondent on phone that the present situation had evolved on account of careless attitude of the district administration.
Due to the road blockage, petrol could not be supplied to the filling stations in the city for the last 40 hours.
