Laser lights, fireworks prohibited near Karachi airport, PAF bases

The Sindh government has imposed a ban on the use of high-beam laser lights and high-altitude fireworks near the Karachi air port and PAF bases for a period of 90 days.

According to a notification, the home department was “requested to impose a ban on the use of high-beam laser lights and high-altitude fireworks – 1,000 feet over the city and 500 feet around the field area of airport.”

The notification said a meeting mulled over the problem that high-beam laser lights and high-altitude fireworks were “creating flights safety hazard during navigation of the flights”.

It said the Civil Aviation Authority and the Pakistan Air Force’s (PAF) Masroor and Faisal Base had complained that high-beam laser lights and high-altitude fireworks used by different companies and individuals had been creating disturbance for the maneuverability of pilots, resulting in possible diversion of aircraft from their flight path.

Also, citizens have been told that nobody was allowed to slaughter animals and throw their remains or distribute meat out in the open near in the vicinity of airports as birds, such as kites, would be gather around it which could create safety hazards aircraft and airplanes.

“The Government of Sindh, in exercise of the powers conferred under Section 144 (6) of the CrPC, do hereby impose ban on high-beam laser lights and high altitude fireworks” near the Karachi air port and PAF bases, it said.

In pursuance of Section 195 (i) (a) Cr.P.C, the SHO of relevant police station was authorised to register complaints under Section 188 of the PPC for the violation of Section 144 of the Cr.PC against the violators, it added.
