PESHAWAR: Qaumi Watan Party (QWP) head Aftab Sherpao on Thursday said that the remarks of Alice Wells, US diplomat, about the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) showed that Pakistan’s foreign policy had failed.
In a statement, he said that the government should have responded to her remarks in an effective manner as China was a close friend and ally of Pakistan. “China has always helped Pakistan. The CPEC is a game-changer project so the government must take steps to cement relations with Beijing and promote the country’s interest,” he added.
Aftab Sherpao said that the remarks of the US diplomat that the CPEC contracts had been awarded to some blacklisted firms were meant to hurt Pakistan’s interest. “It is the failure of the PTI government which has been unable to protect the interest of the country,” he added.
The QWP leader added that CPEC was a mega project which would promote regional connectivity besides improving Pakistan’s infrastructure that will yield benefits for the people. Coming down hard on the PTI government, he added that the rulers took a U-turn and did not attend the Kuala Lumpur summit which showed its flawed foreign policy.
