Trash to treasure showcased
Islamabad : For its monthly meeting the Floral Art Society (FAS) of Islamabad/Rawalpindi organised a programme titled ‘Trash to Treasures’ – a subject very much in keeping with the new trend towards recycling used material – not only for creating beautiful objects of art but also to make articles of daily use in the house.
After a meet and greet time slot to allow members and guests - which included First Lady Samina Alvi (a member) and a number of ladies from the diplomatic corps - to arrive at the Serena Hotel where the event was held, the program began with a recitation of the holy Quran; a few words by General Secretary, Yasmin Salman about FAS business and the announcement of a few future plans.
The demonstration was showcased by senior member and past president, Wiqarunnisa Boolani, who presented very innovative arrangements that demonstrated to the members how interesting exhibits can be created by using old newspapers; magazines; pieces of wood; wood shavings; the insides of tissue rolls - and anything else that captures the imagination - in combination with flowers and foliage. Members agreed that it was indeed a different kind of demonstration, incorporating flowers with recyclable materials and the exhibits that were created did justice to the title of the program.
Birthday girls were presented with gifts and a token of appreciation was awarded to Waqarunissa Boolani.
While discussing the exhibits and generally exchanging views during refreshments, it was apparent that the floral art society is committed to create awareness about the use of recyclable trash and how to transform it in to beautiful arrangements that can add beauty to your home décor – or make use of in other ways. The members said they thoroughly enjoyed the program that gave them new ideas - and of course, they captured the images to remind them of what they had learned!
