UE gaffe angers graduates
A mistake by University of Education (UE) Examination Branch has caused anger among the university’s IT graduates who received degrees in “Infomration” Technology instead of Information Technology.
The degrees signed by Punjab Governor/Chancellor Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar issued to the graduates carry the spelling mistake. The degrees issued to the graduates of Bachelor of Science in Information Technology (IT) carry the word “Infomration” instead of information. A number of graduates told The News that they were upset as to how the university‘s examination branch overlooked the error before forwarding their degrees for printing and subsequently to the Punjab governor/chancellor for formal approval. One of the graduates said the UE staff responsible for preparing the document should have turned on “spell check” option on the Microsoft Word to detect the mistake. “This could have saved the university from embarrassment and could have saved time and money that would be spent again for printing of the degrees,” he added.
It is learnt the degrees have been issued to over 1,000 graduates. Another graduate said that with the current degrees they could not even apply for jobs and demanded the UE administration issue degrees with correct details/spelling at the earliest.
When contacted, UE Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Talat Naseer Pasha while terming the mistake a human error said that the graduates would be issued new degrees soon.
