PJI to protest against price hike, flour crisis

PESHAWAR: The Pakhtunkhwa Jamhoori Ittehad (PJI) on Monday discussed the prevailing political situation in the country and lauded the role of the political parties which had opposed the amendment to the Army Act.

A meeting held at Watan Kor with convener for the alliance Sikandar Hayat Khan Sherpao in the chair said the alliance would also consider becoming a party to the petition which had been submitted by the Pakistan Bar Council in the Supreme Court to challenge the amendment to the Army Act. Mukhtar Bacha and Dr Sarfaraz of National Party, Gul Haider Khan and Shakil Waheedullah Khan of Mazdoor Kissan Party, Akhunzada Haider Zaman of Awami Workers Party and Syed Majid Jan of Pakhtunkhwa Ulasi Tehreek and others attended the meeting. The participants said that the PJI would stage a rally from Khyber Bazaar to the Peshawar Press Club on January 24 to register protest against price hike and the prevailing flour crisis in the province. They said a function would be held at the Nishtar Hall in Peshawar on January 26 to mark the death anniversary of Kakaji Sanobar Hussain. The participants said the PJI would hold seminars in Peshawar, Islamabad and Lahore to highlight the importance of the supremacy of the parliament and make the people understand the difference between a security state and a social welfare state.
