Rawalpindi: The City District Government, Rawalpindi, has launched a campaign to cut wild grass and shrubs in 209 graveyards in Rawal Town and Potohar Town to get rid of the breeding sites for mosquitoes.
There are 61 graveyards in Rawal Town and 148 in Potohar Town where more than 100 staffers of the City District Government have started cutting wild grass and shrubs.
Khawaja Salman Rafiq, adviser to the Punjab chief minister, along with Commissioner (Rawalpindi) Division Zahid Saeed, District Coordination Officer (DCO) Sajid Zafar and other high-ranking officers, visited graveyards to monitor the working of staff on Wednesday.
Town Officer (TO) Infrastructure and Services Rafaqat Gondal told ‘The News’ that the staff is cutting long grass and shrubs from all graveyards. He admitted that graveyards were an ideal place for mosquitoes. After the cutting of wild grass and shrubs, the threat of spread of dengue fever would vanish.
He said that the City District Government are using machines to cut grass and shrubs in graveyards. “We will complete the task in a few days, he assured.
