KARACHI: Host England pulled a five-run victory against second placed Australia on Monday, which caused the later to lose ranking points, and that has helped third-placed Pakistan change places with Australia and move up to second spot in the ICC T20I Rankings.
Following this movement in the rankings, Pakistan now trail ICC World Twenty20 champion Sri Lanka by only six points. Recently, Pakistan have defeated Sri Lanka 2-0 in a two-match T20 series, hosted by the world champions.
England have retained their eighth position on the table.
Meanwhile, India’s Virat Kohli has become the number-one ranked batsman in the latest T20I Player Rankings.
Kohli has taken over from Australia’s Aaron Finch, who missed Monday’s T20I against England. As a result, Finch dropped 17 points, which, in turn, means he now trails the India Test captain by seven points.
Moving up the batting table following Monday’s T20I were rival captains Eoin Morgan of England and Steven Smith of Australia.
Morgan slapped three fours and seven sixes in a 39-ball 74, which has helped him rise six places to eighth, while Smith’s 53-ball 90, which included seven fours and four sixes, has helped him rocket 62 places to 96th.
England’s Moeen Ali has achieved a career-high 77th spot after his 46-ball 72, which included six fours and three sixes, which has vaulted him 79 places.
In the bowling table, Pat Cummins, who took two for 25 in the match, has moved up 11 places to join Imran Tahir in 14th spot, while Glenn Maxwell has moved up three places to 29th. The bowlers’ list is headed by Samuel Badree of the West Indies.
