CDGL improving Civil Defence, Fire Brigade capacity

City District Government Lahore (CDGL) has been improving the capacity and performance of its Civil Defence and Fire Brigade Department on the patron of Rescue 1122 to coup up with emergencies and natural calamities.
A performance review meeting of these two departments was held here Tuesday, which was chaired by DCO Lahore.
The meeting was informed that in 2015 City District Government Lahore had purchased 50 life jackets, 25 life rings, 50 rain coat for Civil Defence Department; 20 swimmers had been recruited in viewing the drowning incidents at River Ravi and Lahore Canal.
The Civil Defence, swimmers are regularly doing their duties at River Ravi and Lahore Canal due to which less number of drowning incidents have been reported this year.
It was informed that in 2015, CDGL gave another assignment to Civil Defence Department regarding checking fire safety equipment at commercial and trade centres. As a result, Civil Defence Department ensured installation of fire safety equipment in 367 commercial and trade centres with the construction of emergency exit ways in them so that in case of fire in building, it could be controlled.
Similarly, 1,557 commercial buildings owners were served fine tickets for not taking fire safety measures and Civil Defence sent their cases to courts which had fined Rs2 million to 729 commercial building owners while remaining cases are still pending in courts.
To educate the children, students and citizens, Civil Defence Department has arranged basic general course in different colleges and schools of Lahore.
The Civil Defence staff has trained 6,554 citizens on rescue, first aid and others this year while 2,192 citizens have been given fire safety training; 371 persons involved in LPG illegal filling have been issued fine tickets, while 51 cases were registered against them. Similarly, Fire Brigade Department has been made effective this year.
On the special direction of DCO Lahore 16 vehicles of Fire Brigade have been properly repaired and their old and leaked water tanks replaced with new one.
