Dr Assad appointed as HSA vice chancellor
Islamabad:President Arif Alvi has approved the appointment of Dr. Assad Hafeez as first vice chancellor of the Health Services Academy (HSA) – an institution that he has been heading as Executive Director in addition to holding the position of Director General Health in the Ministry of National Health Services
The appointment has been made in exercise of powers conferred under Section 42(2) of the Health Services Academy (Restructuring) Act, 2018. Dr Assad was the senior-most officer out of a panel of three public health specialists whose names had been nominated in the summary forwarded to the President’s Secretariat by the Prime Minister’s Office.
Dr. Assad is a renowned academician and public health administrator with clinical and management experience in various capacities spanning over 30 years. Following his assumption of office as vice chancellor of HSA, a new Director General Health will soon be posted. Dr. Assad has been appointed VC for a period of three years starting January 9, 2020.
HSA was granted degree awarding status in May 2018. The institution offers postgraduate programmes in Public Health including Ph.D and Masters in Public Health, as well as Masters in Health Economics and Management. Over 2,000 students have thus far graduated from HSA.
