Two traffic cops shot dead

Two traffic policemen were gunned down in Gulshan-e-Iqbal on Sunday night.
Following the incident, Karachi DIG Traffic Amir Ahmed Shaikh requested the IGP Ghulam Hyder Jamali to issue weapons to traffic police and the proposal has been approved.
Constables Sher Ali and Nizam Hussain were attacked on University Road at the parking lot of a Sunday Bazaar located in front of a departmental store.
Gulshan SP Abid Qaimkhani said the two policemen were posted at the Gulshan Traffic Section and were deployed at the Sunday Bazaar to clear the way for commuters.
Two men riding a motorcycle fired gunshots at them and escaped.
They expired at the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre.
They had suffered multiple bullet wounds to their upper torsos and attacked with a 9mm pistol.
The SP said police were checking for the CCTV footage of the incident.
Witnesses said the attackers were middle aged and wearing shalwar kameez. Talking to The News, DIG Traffic Amir Ahmed Shaikh termed the attack a cowardly act and said he had requested IGP Jamali to consider the continuous threats being faced by traffic policemen. In this regard, he said the IGP had agreed upon issuance of weapons for the traffic police force and the order would be enforced immediately. — Salis bin Perwaiz
