A businessman, Dr Abbas Merchant, and his two guards were killed at a cattle pen situated on Road No 12 in Bhains Colony, within the remit of Sukhan police station.
Sukhan SDPO Rao Mohammad Iqbal said Merchant was a businessman who owned cattle pens, poultry feed warehouses and also supplied veterinary medication.
On Saturday afternoon he and his two guards, Abdul Fateh and Sajjan went to a cattle pen owned by another businessman Chaudhry Mohammad Shabbir to settle a petty matter.
However an argument broke out and Merchant’s guards opened a volley of fire due to which Mohammed Hussain, the brother of Chaudhry Shabbir, was killed.
However, men of Chaudhry Shabbir returned fire as a result of which Abbas Merchant his two gunmen, Abdul Fateh and Sajjan, were critically injured.
Two more men, Raja Sultan, Chaudhry Shabbir’s record keeper and another worker Salahuddin were also injured in the crossfire.
SDPO Iqbal said police mobiles rushed to the spot, cordoned off the area and moved the victims to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre but Merchant, and his two guards expired on the way.
He said Chaudhry Shabbir, who owned the cattle pen where murders took place among several others, remained safe in the clash.
However, 10 gunmen of deceased cattle dealer Abbas Merchant were later arrested for carrying out an attack on Shabbir’s cattle pen.
