PU syndicate approves several appointments, three new centres

LAHORE : A meeting of Punjab University (PU) Syndicate held on Saturday took up a number of important agenda items, including the proceedings of the selection board and appointment of directors/chairpersons of the university’s different colleges, institutes and departments. The PU Syndicate’s 1734th meeting was presided over by Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Niaz Ahmad Akhtar in which remuneration for heads of teaching departments was also increased from the existing Rs 5,000 to Rs 7,000.

The syndicate also approved establishment of three new centres at the Punjab University, i.e. Centre for Civility and Integrity Development (CCID), Centre for Social Development and Social Entrepreneurship (CSDSE) and Centre for Research on SDGs. Among others, the meeting approved the appointment of Prof Dr Mahboob Hussain as chairman of the History Department, Prof Dr Naveed Ahsan as director of Institute of Geology and Prof Dr Noshina Saleem as director of the Institute of Communication Studies (ICS).

Meanwhile, in the backdrop of the increase in remuneration for heads of the teaching departments, a concern has surfaced among the heads of non-teaching departments of the university. They have demanded the VC initiate similar remuneration for the heads of non-teaching departments as well.

PhDs: Punjab University (PU) has awarded PhD degrees to four scholars.

Muhammad Irshad, son of Muhammad Rafiq, has been awarded a PhD in chemistry after approval of his thesis entitled “Developing Chemical Sensors for Monitoring Engine Fuel Quality,” Nadia Hassan, daughter of Hassan Muhammad, in biological sciences, Nadia Ayub, d/o Muhammad Ayub, in environmental sciences and Abdul Rouf, s/o Shams-ul-Haq, in the subject of Islamic studies.
