Widespread rain forecast from tomorrow

LAHORE: As the cold wave continued to prevail across the country, Met office has warned citizens about widespread rain with snowfall over the hills in the coming week. Met officials said that widespread rain with snowfall over the hills is expected in Balochistan during Sunday and Monday while widespread rain with snowfall over the hills is expected in all districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, Islamabad, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir from Sunday to Tuesday.

They said that rain is also expected in Districts of Dadu, Shaheed Benazirabad, Larkana, Sukkur, Jacobabad and Shikarpur on Monday. Light rain is also expected in districts of Karachi on Monday night. They warned that moderate to heavy falls may generate flash flooding in Quetta, Qila Abdullah, Qila Saifullah, Lora Lai, Kholo, Zhob and hill torrents of DG Khan during Sunday night and Monday. Moderate to heavy snowfall is also expected in Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Buner, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Kohistan, Neelam Valley, Bagh and Haveli Districts during Monday to Tuesday. Murree, Galiyat may also receive moderate to heavy snowfall during the period. Foggy conditions are likely to subside during the wet spell. Met officials have also asked all authorities concerned to take precautionary measures during the forecast period.

Meanwhile, cold wave weakened a little in the city Friday while Met officials predicted a westerly wave is affecting western and upper parts of the country and likely to persist in upper parts during next 24 hours.

They said that on Saturday (today) rain/thunderstorm (snowfall over mountains) with cloudy weather condition is expected at isolated places in Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan. Fog is likely to prevail in few plain areas of South Punjab and upper Sindh during morning and night hours. Rainfall was recorded at Dir, Kalam, Chitral, Drosh, Mirkhani, Malam Jabba, Parachinar, Pattan, Saidu Sharif, Kakul, Jiwani and Quetta while snowfall occurred at Kalam, Malam Jabba, Dir, Chitral, Drosh and Quetta.

Friday’s minimum temperature was recorded at Skardu where mercury dropped down to -10°C while in Lahore, it was 4°C and maximum was 20°C.
