UHS board considers thesis reports, synopses

LAHORE:The 153rd meeting of the Advanced Studies and Research Board of University of Health Sciences (UHS) was held here on Thursday with UHS Vice-Chancellor Prof Javed Akram in the chair.

The board considered the thesis reports of Dr Muhammad Ali Talat, MPhil (biochemistry), Dr Imran Maqsood Butt, MPhil (community medicine), Dr Sidra Liaqat, MPhil (microbiology), Dr Sarah Rabbani, MPhil (oral pathology), Dr Aleena Irteza Khan, M.D. (dermatology), Dr Gaurav Gorkhali, M.S. (anaesthesia), Dr Farooq Masoud Watto, M.S. (orthopaedics surgery), Dr Syed Ali Raza, M.S. (orthopaedics surgery), Dr Saif ur Rasool, M.S. (paediatric surgery), Dr Akfish Zaheer, MPhil (pharmacology), Anam Khalid, MPhil (medical laboratory sciences-chemical pathology), Dr Annum Basit, MPhil (anatomy), Dr Rabia Latif MPhil (anatomy), Dr Pervaiz Zarif, MPhil (forensic medicine), Dr Muhammad Usman, MPhil (pharmacology), Dr Mariam Saeed Kalim, M.D. (radiology), Dr Ubaid Ullah, M.S. PhDs awarded: Punjab University (PU) has awarded PhDs to five scholars.

Haji Muhammad, son of Faquir Muhammad, has been awarded PhD in the subject of Zoology after approval of his thesis entitled ‘Morphometric and Genetic Diversity of Fish Species at Taunsa Barrage, Pakistan’, Muhammad Atif Sultan, son of Muhammad Sultan Akhter, in the subject of High Energy Physics after approval of his thesis entitled ‘Chiral Symmetry Breaking Through Full Quark-Gluon Interaction’, Fasiha Qurashi, daughter of Muhammad Hussain Qureshi, in the subject of Agricultural Sciences (Plant Pathology) after approval of her thesis entitled ‘Genetic Diversity of Begomoviruses Affecting Diverse Host Plants in Per-Urban Areas of Lahore’, Khadija Saeed, daughter of Saeed Akhter Siddique, in the subject of High Energy Physics after approval of her thesis entitled ‘Search for (J /, (2S)) X’ and Muhammad Rizwan Dilshad, son of Dilshad Rashid, in the subject of Chemical Engineering after approval of his thesis entitled ‘Synthesis and Characterization of Mixed Matrix Membranes for Separation of Gas /Liquid Mixtures’.

Condolence meeting: A condolence meeting for the late Prof Shabbir Ahmad Naru, former chairman and professor of surgery, KEMC, was held by King Edward Medical University (KEMU) Vice-Chancellor Prof Khalid Masud Gondal in the university. The meeting was attended by the late Prof’s colleagues, students, faculty members, friends and family.

Shabbir Ahmad Naru’s daughter Prof Bilquis Shabbir talked of her father’s academic and professional career. She told the audience how much he loved teaching, his students and patients.

Prof Khalid Masud Gondal very fondly remembered Naru as a kind person, professional and a true role model. He mentioned his work experience with Shabbir Naru.

Prof Sadaqat Ali Khan spoke of the lovely memories with Naru during his years at KEMC and how he would maintain discipline in the ward in a distinct way.

Prof Muhammad Amjad also paid tribute to the late Prof, remembering his particular mannerism and sense of humour. UHS VC Prof Javed Akram appreciated his efforts for his students and how he brought up his children.

PMDC former President Prof Tariq Iqbal Bhutta reminisced about his old days with Naru at Nishter Medical College, Multan, where they were neighbours. The ceremony concluded with dua by Dr Fayyaz Ranjha for the late professor.
