KP to make way for powerful district govts: CM

BANNU: Chief Minister Pervez Khattak Friday said that the success of the provincial government depends on the performance of the district governments.
Speaking at a public meeting in Kalakhel Masti Khan Union Council here, he said that most of the development funds and powers of provincial government would be devolved to the district governments.
“Now, it is time for the district governments to deliver and serve the people at the grassroots level,” he added. He said that the district governments have to deliver and come up to the expectations of the people.
He said that the provincial government would curtail the powers of the district governments if it failed to deliver. He said that the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI)-led provincial government would ensure equal distribution of development funds among the district.
The chief minister said that the district government that shows better performance would be provided more funds and resources.
He urged the councillors-elect not to compromise on the quality of the development work in their respective areas and ensure quality work.
He said that the powers of transfers, appointments and provision of civic facilities had been devolved to the local government and it’s the responsibility of the district governments to run schools, hospitals, police stations, revenue offices and other district departments according to the reforms introduced by the provincial government. Pervez Khattak said the people voted the PTI to power to eliminate menace of corruption and change the discriminatory system and not to construct roads and buildings.
He said that the PTI government was working hard to improve the life standards of masses, particularly poor and make the province prosperous. Enumerating his government achievements, he said that the government had eliminated corruption from the government departments and nepotism and recommendation (sifarish) in appointments. “Now the big fish involved in corruption are languishing in prisons,” he added.
