An alleged gangster wanted in 15 target killing cases was shot dead during a shootout with the Chakiwara police on Thursday.
The police received information that the gangster was hiding in a house situated near Umar Lane in Lyari.
Personnel of the Chakiwara police arrived at the location and upon seeing them, the suspect opened fire at the police who retaliated. In the ensuring shootout, the accused was critically injured while his three aides managed to escape.
During preliminary interrogation, the injured suspect disclosed his name to be Shahroze. He said he was 25 years old and belonged to the Uzair Baloch Group of Lyari.
He was being shifted to Civil Hospital Karachi when he succumbed to his injuries. A Kalashnikov and two hand grenades were recovered from his possession.
The police claimed that he was involved in the killing of more than 15 people, and several cases attempted murder, kidnapping for ransom, extortion and other crimes.
