As a follow-up of Gwadar Declaration and decisions of special meeting of heads of Inter-University Consortium for Promotion of Social Science (IUCPSS) hosted by Government of Balochistan on April 9 and 10, 2015 at Gwadar, the Comsats Institute of Information Technology (CIIT), Islamabad, has announced 50 annual scholarships for the youth of Balochistan.
It was informed by CIIT (Islamabad) Rector Dr. S M Junaid Zaidi during a meeting with Adviser on Education to Balochistan Chief Minister Sardar Muhammad Raza Barrech.
Inter-University Consortium Chairman and University of Haripur Vice Chancellor Dr. Nasser Ali Khan, CIIT Pro-Rector Dr. Haroon Rashid, Inter-University Consortium National Coordinator Muhammad Murtaza Noor and other officials were present on the occasion. The CIIT rector also assured full cooperation to the Balochistan government for establishment of Technology Park in Quetta.
Inter-University Consortium Chairman Dr. Nasser Ali Khan said as per commitments by the Inter-University Consortium and its partner organisations, the consortium has already decided for allocation of seats for the students of Balochistan along with scholarship opportunities. The gesture by CIIT, in this regard, is quite appreciable. He extended thanks to the CIIT rector and administration of the National Testing Service of Pakistan for hosting Professional Development Workshop for faculty members of Balochistan universities.
Adviser on Education to Balochistan Chief Minister Sardar Muhammad Raza Barrech appreciated keen interest and collaborative efforts of CIIT and Inter-University Consortium for promoting higher education in Balochistan. He said that such steps would be greatly helpful for improving quality of teaching and research in the higher education sector of the province and would promote inter-provincial harmony as well. He believed that the youth of the province would benefit from this PhD scholarship programme and after completion of their studies, they would contribute to the socio-economic development of the country. He announced that a parliamentary delegation from Balochistan would soon visit the CIIT.
Meanwhile, Balochistan Chief Minister Dr. Abdul Malik Baloch, on behalf of coalition government and people of Balochistan, extended thanks to the CIIT and Inter-University Consortium for assisting the government of Balochistan and undertaking practical steps for improving the state of higher education in the province. He remarked that the award of 50 scholarships every year to the youth of Balochistan would be helpful in overcoming shortage of educated human resource in the province. He said that the coalition government would continue to benefit from the expertise of the member institutions and partner organisations of the consortium in future as well.
