Car prices
December 13, 2019
This refers to the letter, ‘The auto slump’ (Dec 12) by Kulsoom A Majeed. This is to clarify for the information of the general public that auto plants (OEM) in Pakistan are not only assemblers rather they are producing cars with around 60-65 percent deletion – which means they are getting parts manufactured through locally developed vendors which are quite large in number and have been in a fix due to the considerable decline in car production.
As such, the learned writer’s point of view pertaining to assembly units is not a cause of surge in the prices of locally made cars while other factors mentioned may be contributing factors in unaffordable car prices.
