LAHORE: The 8th Quaid-i-Azam Amateur Golf Championship will tee off on Friday at the Lahore Gymkhana Golf Course.
This was stated by Shaukat Javed, Convener Golf Lahore Gymkhana, at a press conference attended and addressed by Omer Zia, Captain Golf, Khawaja Pervaiz Saeed, Director Media and the representatives of the sponsors Lampro Mellon, Sfive, and Risc, Mir Maaz Mehmood. Shaukat Javed further stated that eligible to participate in this grand event being held in the name of Father of the Nation are registered amateurs with a handicap of 14 and below. He highlighted that being a national event it is going to attract skilled golf players from all over the country. Omer Zia, Captain Golf shared that besides the top Amateurs, also eligible to participate are Senior Amateur Golf Players, Veterans and Ladies. As for the veterans above 70 years they will compete over 9 holes on Friday. And the category of veterans over 80 years will compete over 6 holes. Kh Pervaiz Saeed said that in numerical terms the competing hopefuls add up to a total of 213, with amateur competitors being 120,senior amateurs 63,ladies 20, veterans in age bracket 70 to 80 are 40 and veterans above 80 years number eight.
While number of competing golfers is high, the e prominent ones are Damil Attaullah, Col Rustam Ali Chatha, Ahmed Kiyani (all from Lahore Garrison), Mohsen Zafar, (Lahore Gymkhana), Hussain Hamid (Royal Palm), Raja M. Israr Garden (City), Nadeem Aslam, Tariq Mehmood, Nouman Ilyas, Lahore Garrison, Khalid Mehmood (Rawaplindi) and Owais Intesar from Karachi Golf Club. In ladies section the prominent ones are Sunyah Osama, Ghazala Yasmin, Zaibun Nisa, Ana James Gill and Zahida Durrani. The defending champion is Ameer Khawaja of Sialkot.
